Little Learning is a pre-school learning scheme for children aged 3 to 5 years. It is designed primarily to encourage and develop observational skills, in particular the keen observation of similarities and differences, which are presented in an obvious way to begin with, gradually becoming more subtle as the scheme progresses.

Observational skills start to develop when a child is a few months old, manifesting themselves in imitation. It is crucial that these skills are channelled into a more formal structure if education is to take place successfully. Close observation is the basis of all learning; by close observation children absorb the world around them and understand how everything is inter-related.

Little Learning presents a series of exercises that build one upon the other - each stage dependent on the mastery of the previous. The exercises involve pre-reading, pre-writing and pre-number activities that provide a strong foundation for learning the three Rs. Although designed for the child to know success, the scheme gradually becomes more challenging. You supervise the child as they work through the scheme in short sessions designed to be fun - this way the child also benefits from personal interaction. An advantage of the scheme is that if the child has difficulty with an exercise the relevant page can be reprinted and tried again at a later time.

The Little Learning scheme also helps develop hand/eye co-ordination, left to right orientation and development of small muscles, important for using a pen or pencil.
